The Premise: The PCs are Coyote Chasers who have arrived in the region of Three Villages in the wake of Coyote’s latest joke. The villages are preparing for their [tribunal], a joint celebration & competition which occurs every 12 years. PCs try to head off the worst of the chaos of Coyote’s meddling, so that the historic friendship between the villages can survive.
Coyote Chasers: Actually chasing Coyote seems like a terrible idea that would probably end poorly for the chasers and only amuse Coyote. Instead, Coyote Chasers are more akin to modern storm chasers: people who follow closely behind the disasters with the intention of mitigation and learning. Coyote loves to afflict the comfortable and disrupt the status quo; his pranks are often funny, educational, and make excellent stories – in hindsight and with the benefit of having already weathered the disruption. The Chasers help people endure Coyote’s lessons, and hopefully come away wiser in the process. (It is not unusual for people whose elders decide they could benefit from some of Coyote’s wisdom to be “strongly encouraged” to join the Chasers, so not everyone who joins is doing so from pure altruism. Chasing can also be an equivalent to a sentence of community service in lieu of harsher penalties.)
